The Info Bar is located at the bottom of the document window (just above the status bar) and provides comprehensive context-sensitive help, including mouse actions and keyboard shortcuts.
The Info Bar is shown by default, and can be shown/hidden by choosing menu option View > Info Bar. Alternatively, click the Show/Hide Info Bar icon on the status bar, which is shown here:
The Info Bar lists mouse actions and keyboard shortcuts that are relevant to the current combination of tool selection, content selection and mouse position. As you change the current selection and mouse position notice how the Info Bar options are updated. It provides a powerful and convenient way of discovering actions and options, which you might not otherwise come to know about.
Most of the keyboard keys used for shortcuts are located at the bottom left of the keyboard. Here are some symbols and names for the main keys involved:
⌘ Command - also known as the Apple key
⌥ Option - also known as Alt key
⌃ Control - also known as Ctrl or Ctl key
fn Function
⇧ Shift
⇪ Caps Lock
Holding down any of the keys in the Info Bar options causes them to be highlighted a light blue color. For example, here's how the Info Bar looks when in the same state as shown above, but with the fn key held down (make your help window wider if you can't see the fn key on the image):
Holding down keys in the Info Bar options may also cause some of the other options to become disabled. Disabled options are shown grayed out. For example, here's how the Info Bar looks when in the same state, but with the Shift key held down:
Holding down multiple keys in the Info Bar options is allowed and the combination logic is processed correctly. For example, here's how the Info Bar looks when in the same state, but with the fn and Shift keys both held down:
All of the library shapes and drawing tools can be selected and then 'locked on' for repeated use (to avoid having to reselect after drawing each shape). When any library shape or drawing tool is selected the tool lock icon is shown just above the Info Bar. For example, here's the Info Bar and tool lock icon showing the Straight Line Tool selected for single use:
Tools can be locked on by pressing the Caps Lock key. The tool lock icon shows the current lock state. For example, here's the Info Bar and tool lock icon showing the Straight Line Tool locked on for repeated usage (by pressing the Caps Lock key):
Press the Caps Lock key again to deselect the tool lock.
NOTE: When the Caps Lock is on, selecting a different library shape or drawing tool is allowed and the tool lock continues to apply to the newly selected shape or drawing tool.
